UK - New device to take fingerprints in streets

The new technology, which may ultimately be able to receive pictures of suspects, is most likely to be in widespread use within 18 months in the UK. Tens of thousands of sets - as small as BlackBerry smartphones - are expected to be distributed. To address fears about mass surveillance and random searches, the police insist that fingerprints taken by the scanners will not be stored in, or added to databases. The first phase of the 'Mobile Identification At Scene' (Midas) project, costing £30m-£40m, will enable police officers to perform rapid checks on the fingerprints of people arrested or detained. The marks will be compared against records on Ident1, the national police database which holds information on 7.5 million individuals. A senior technology officer with the NPIA, told the Biometrics 2008 conference that Project Midas would save enormous amounts of police time and reduce the number of wrongful arrests.

Pop Icon Michael Jackson Died of Cardiac Arrest.

Michael Jackson died Thursday after being rushed unconscious and not breathing to a Los Angeles hospital, the Los Angeles Times and TMZ reported.
Los Angeles Fire Department Capt. Steve Ruda told the Los Angeles Times that paramedics responded to a 911 call at 12:26 p.m. Jackson, 50, was not breathing when they arrived.
The parademics performed CPR on the way to the hospital, the paper said. A member of the Jackson family said his brothers and mother were on their way to see him. "[He's in] really bad shape," a family member told TMZ.
The cause of his death was unknown. His spokesman denied reports he had cancer just last month, asserting Jacko "is in the best of health."
The bizarre, scandal-plagued "Thriller" star had been trying to make a comeback in recent months.
He had 50 sold-out concerts planned for London later this summer. His death capped a life of superstardom and scandal. The music legend burst onto the pop scene as a child star with the Jackson 5 nearly four decades ago.
Once a sure-fire hit machine, he still holds the record for the biggest-selling album with "Thriller." He also wowed fans with monster hits like "Billie Jean" and "Rock With You."
Millions of fans imitated his famed moonwalk dance and he was known worldwide as the Gloved One for his trademark handwear. But personal and professional woes have eclipsed his talent for years.
He was acquitted in 2005 of molesting a young fan at his Neverland Ranch and caused an uproar by dangling one of his three children out of a Berlin hotel window in 2002. His latest recordings suffered from tepid sales and a rumored comeback album never materialized.
Jackson's first wife was Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of Elvis, whom he married in 1994. It was a match made in showbiz heaven but they split less than two years later. He later married Australian Debbie Rowe and they had two children, Prince, 12 and Paris, 11.
A third child, Prince Michael II, was reportedly born with the help of an anonymous surrogate mother.
Jackson had faced serious financial problems in recent years as sales wilted.
He faced certain foreclosure on Neverland until he managed to refinance the mortgage on the 270-acre spread. Some analysts said he could make more than $200 million from this summer's concerts in Britain.
Jackson moved with his kids to Bahrain in the Persian Gulf after his molestation trial, but returned to Los Angeles in recent months.

Windows 7 Release Date Announced

Microsoft plans on releasing Windows 7 (apparently in the next few months), and this new version will replace their previous operating system: Windows Vista. The developers promise Windows 7 will be simpler to use, and more functional, with less of what you don't need and more of what you do.Microsoft announced that it will make available an upgrade option in order for partners to be able to offer their customers the ability to buy a Windows Vista-based PC, and then just install Windows 7 when it’s ready. The release date for Windows 7 has been confirmed as October 22, 2009. In addition, Windows Server 2008 R2 will also be available at around the same time.Microsoft says it has been working closely with partners to ensure their mutual customers can enjoy all the benefits of Windows 7 once it is released. On June 3, 2009, Microsoft’s OEM Division Corporate Vice President Steve Guggenheimer, expresed the company's confidence in their new Windows 7 version. He announced this at a keynote address at Computex 2009 in Taipei.“What we’re doing with Windows will continue to improve people’s lives so that that technology enables them to communicate better, make tasks simpler and new things possible,” he says. “Our partners in the hardware space, our competitors in software — the entire industry is doing incredible things.” said Mr. Guggenheimer. As an example, he reffered to the evolution of the small notebook PC's (also known as Netbooks) that are mainly designed to offer customers the ability for simplified internet connectivity. He went on to say: “A year ago when these smaller PCs first came onto the scene, many in the space were saying consumers wouldn’t want or need these devices to be full-featured,” he says. “In fact, the exact opposite turned out to be true.Consumers really do want small notebook PCs to work like their laptops and desktops. Windows provides a familiar and easy-to-use experience that consumers want and demand from these devices.” He also went on to say that Laptop pc sales are expected to rise and even surpass Desktop pc sales in the near future, with consumers increasingly demanding connectivity on the go.

De-Listing: How to Avoid It? by Manish Shrivastava

De-listing can be defined as a temporary or permanent de-indexing of web pages or blogs from a directory index or a search engine. If you are a website owner, you must be familiar with this term. It is a very common phenomenon which can be caused by not one, but multiple factors. Again, depending on the cause for removal, de-listing can be temporary or even permanent. If it is for clean up of dead links or server issues at a site's host, de-listing is temporary, however, you can also be punished by a search engine for spamming resulting in a permanent de-listing. If for any reason your site experiences this phenomenon, you can consult search engine optimization SEO services . As already mentioned, de-indexing may be caused by several factors. Many new sites often go through temporary de-indexing. This is best explained by the nature of search engine indexing web pages. Talking about Google, this search engine uses a primary as well as a secondary crawler. The primary crawler uses the findings of secondary crawler, which is stored in a temporary database. The data is then stored in the main index. This process may take weeks and in the transitional period, you new site may experience de-listing. Is Artificial Intelligence getting smarter?

Artificial Intelligence - the word is synonymous with science fiction movies and books, and the whole concept was probably born in the mind of a writer at some point in time.
It's a subject that has - since around the 20th century - enjoyed more and more attention - even if most of it was in the minds of those who dreamed it up, and those who had fairly active imaginations.
That is for the most part - however - where it remained. It was a concept, a far flung idea that bordered on the edge of imagination and possibility. Personally, I believe Artificial Intelligence will largely remain that - artificial - no matter how advanced it may become.
What separates human beings from computers - from machines - is the human spirit. Having said that, one cannot help but wonder how far A.I. will develop, and what will be it's limitations? Will it even have limitations?
.I. is a field of technology that seems to be gaining momentum, with so much research being done in this field right now.The other question that needs to be asked is: How will A.I. be used to serve mankind and the world?
Researchers at are now conducting experiments using robots and a computers to research the relationship between cognitive responses and how we interact with the environment immediately around us. The computer has come a long way since the very first one was built in the second half of the 20th century. It was so big that it needed an entire room to fit into. And for all the computer's size, it was at that stage not much more powerful than a simple pocket calculator.
Of course today, all that has changed. Chips are getting smaller, processors are getting smaller, yet more powerful, so it stands to reason that computing power in even the smallest type of robot, is vastly more than ever before. So where will Artificial Intelligence be used? While the possibilities are probably endless, one area that comes to mind is construction, or in factories. Places where heavy lifting needs to be done, or where precision is of utmost importance. Imagine a machine that follows you around as you do your work, lifts heavy objects or even drills a hole in a wall where you tell it to.
I would suppose the ideal scenario would be that the actual interaction between human and machine would be much smoother. One can only wonder and speculate what the future of A.I. may bring...

The Internet Loss Leader Strategy - a little-known list building secret by Bob Bly

For decades, retailers and direct marketers have used "loss leaders" or inexpensive items sold at or below cost to acquire new customers. This proven technique also benefits Internet marketers to build their email lists using an online variation of the offline loss leader technique.
For Internet marketers, your list is your key to making money online. The larger your e-list, the greater your online revenues - all else being equal. Reason: the people on your e-list already know you and trust you, so they are more inclined to purchase products from you.
The Internet Loss Leader Strategy is a simple, yet powerful secret weapon for building your e-list. An example of how it works: you've created an e-book priced it at $39 and notified your bigger affiliates that they could offer it for only $19, a $20 discount off the cover price. As an incentive for promoting this product, your affiliates will earn a 100% commission on each sale, instead of the usual 50%. Your affiliate takes all of the revenue for sales from this e-book.
However, every person on your affiliate's list who orders will do so through an affiliate link directing traffic to your landing page for the e-book. As a result, each person who buys the e-book will be added to your e-list.
These subscribers are more valuable than those acquired through general marketing techniques. They have already purchased a product from you and will be likely to do more purchasing. Initially, it seems like you're taking a loss, but adding these names to your file is priceless ... once they are in your sales funnel this person could spend tens of thousands of dollars over the course of a lifetime.
